Method

1.Measure grain and rinse thoroughly under cold water
2.Add water and soak for 12 hours
3.Drain excess water thoroughly through a strainer
4.Dry surface on clean towels (15-20 min) until no visible moisture
5.Load into bags with 0.2 micron filter patch
6.Sterilize at 15 PSI for 90 minutes
7.Cool completely before inoculation

Grain Prep Tips

1.Rinse first. Removes dust and starch that cause clumping.
2.The nail test: Press your fingernail into a kernel — it should indent but not split.
3.Dry the surface. Spread on towels for 15-20 min. Surface moisture causes contamination.
4.Cool completely before inoculating — hot grain kills mycelium.
5.Extra soak water is intentional. The calculator adds 20% extra because you drain the excess off.
