Method

  1. 1.Measure grain and rinse thoroughly under cold water
  2. 2.Add water and soak for 12 hours
  3. 3.Drain excess water thoroughly through a strainer
  4. 4.Dry surface on clean towels (15-20 min) until no visible moisture
  5. 5.Load into bags with 0.2 micron filter patch
  6. 6.Sterilize at 15 PSI for 90 minutes
  7. 7.Cool completely before inoculation

Grain Prep Tips

  • 1.Rinse first. Removes dust and starch that cause clumping.
  • 2.The nail test: Press your fingernail into a kernel — it should indent but not split.
  • 3.Dry the surface. Spread on towels for 15-20 min. Surface moisture causes contamination.
  • 4.Cool completely before inoculating — hot grain kills mycelium.
  • 5.Extra soak water is intentional. The calculator adds 20% extra because you drain the excess off.
