If you are choosing your first liquid culture syringe, start with Blue Oyster or Lion's Mane. Blue Oyster is fast and forgiving, while Lion's Mane is a popular choice for enriched hardwood blocks. How do I use a liquid culture syringe?
Shake the syringe gently to distribute the mycelium, then inject 1-3cc into sterilized grain jars or spawn bags through a self-healing injection port. Work near a flame or in a still-air box to maintain sterility.
How long does liquid culture last?
Liquid culture syringes are best used within 1-2 months of purchase. Store them in the fridge (4°C) to extend viability. Commercial 200ml jars last longer due to the larger nutrient volume, but should also be refrigerated.
